Division of Epidemiology and Biometry
Welcome to the webpage of the Division of Epidemiology and Biometry (EuB) within the Faculty of Medicine.
News:
- We have moved – you can now find us in building V03 in the A wing on the second floor – easiest entry through the foyer.
- We had already changed the department at the beginning of 2023 – Epidemiology and Biometry are now as clinical-theoretical subjects a division of the Department of Human Medicine.
- The secretariat has been newly staffed by Ms. Schrand since the beginning of September.
Projects:
- The EU project MIDDEL has been extended for another two months. However, only follow-up examinations and surveys are still being carried out.
- The projects PsychIBD and Aza (Cochrane Reviews) and ILEG are largely completed.
News about the team:
- Ms. Heitmann has unfortunately left us with the end of the project survey phase MIDDEL. We wish her all the best in her new position – you have been a great support!
- Mrs. Tiles-Sar will work in the second half of the year mainly on her Groningen projects in Groningen. Many thanks to her as well for her work in the PsychIBD team!
- Also the student employees are partly going new ways – many thanks to Kristina Seibel!
Clinical Epidemiology: A Daydream?
"To the pure clinician, the clinical research published in general medical journals is no longer really understandable, because the design and the analyses have become too complicated. To the pure methodologist, it may not be evident how particular findings fit with background clinical and basic science knowledge. .....If we want to preserve and reinforce proper judgements about the theory and practice of medicine—including the use of ‘big data’ and the use of ‘personalised medicine’—we need people with both types of knowledge in one head"
Vandenbroucke 2017
"Zwei Dinge sind zu unserer Arbeit nötig: Unermüdliche Ausdauer und die Bereitschaft, etwas, in das man viel Zeit und Arbeit gesteckt hat, wieder wegzuwerfen"
Albert Einstein.
